Keep F.O.G. Out of Our Drains

basin-1502544_1920

The Chickasha Waste Water Treatment Plant is asking residents to help keep F.O.G., or fats, oils and grease, out of our city’s drains.

Improper disposal of fats, oils and grease leads to costly sewer backups and overflows. In turn, this can cause house damage, increased sewer rates and environmental hazards.

Fats, oils and grease should not be poured down the drain or flushed. Instead, it should be allowed to solidify then thrown in the trash. Fats, oils and grease are beneficial to the landfill, where it will break down and help in the biodegrading process.

Examples of fats, oils and grease not to pour down the drain include meat fats and juices; canola, cooking and vegetable oils; grease; lard; shortening; and butter and margarine.

Other items that should not be put down the drain or flushed include food scraps, baking goods, flushable wet wipes, feminine hygiene products and anything solid.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Chickasha Waste Water Treatment Plant at (405) 224-0026.
