DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Chickasha Department of Fire/EMS provides a wide range of services to the city of Chickasha. Chickasha fire/EMS also provides paramedic level ambulance service to central Grady county through a contact with the Grady County EMS board. Thirty-eight career firefighter/EMT’s and two civilian personnel staff the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services. The Fire/EMS department operates a fleet of ten emergency vehicles out of two stations. Between 2500 and 3000 requests for service are answered each year. Approximately 70% of service requests are for emergency medical service.
All fire personnel are cross-trained as emergency medical technicians. The City of Chickasha provides the highest level of emergency medical service available in Oklahoma. Chickasha Fire/EMS not only provides this service in Chickasha but throughout Central Grady County as well under a contract with the Grady County EMS board. Chickasha Fire/EMS also provides non-emergency transport between medical facilities (Hospitals and nursing homes) when medically necessary. Chickasha Fire EMS does not provide routine transport for people to and from doctor appointments or other medical appointments.
Chickasha Fire/EMS responds to a wide variety
of emergency and non-emergency requests for service. Emergency services
include not only fire and EMS but hazardous materials incidents, technical
rescue incidents and other hazardous conditions as well. Non-emergency
services include checking smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and other
services.

Chickasha Fire/EMS accepts applications on a year-round basis. Applications can be obtained by contacting Mary Grote in person at City Hall or by calling her at 405-222-6020.
The testing procedure is competitively based and consists of written testing, physical testing, interviews, and background checks. Written and physical testing is conducted by Eastern Oklahoma County Technology Center in Choctaw. More information on the testing process is located on their web site at www.eocftc.org.

2. Acceptable driving and criminal record.
3. Certification as an EMT basic or above.
For EMT’s licensed in another state, a state of Oklahoma license will be
required before a job offer is tendered.
Preferences:
1. Previous fire and/or EMS experience.
2. Certification as a Paramedic.
3. Associates or Bachelors degree in a
related field.
